Making Roman Wax Tablets and Clay Oil Burners.

Chestnut class spent an exciting morning being Roman crafts people and they learnt how to make a Roman oil lamp and a wax tablet.

The children followed the instructions given to them on how to make a clay oil lamp and I think you will be impressed when you look through the slide show.

The children were very sensible when they were making their wax tablets and were thoroughly fascinated watching the liquid wax solidify and cool. They particularly enjoyed writing a sum and solving it in Roman numerals.

Brian, our chair of governors, and Mrs Bartlett kindly came in to assist with the high tech operations; Mrs Bartlett was on clay creations whilst Brian and Ms Liddell were on wax duty. Without their help it would not have been possible to achieve what we did in that morning.

Thank you to everyone who helped.
