Everyday this week you will be able to listen to Mrs Baker discussing different parts of the world using an Atlas to help. This week our reading response is a quiz. You will need to listen carefully to each video to answer the questions. Hopefully you will learn lots of new facts about the world. We havent got a padlet this week to uplaod to but hopefully I will get it sorted for next week.

Year 1. This week we will contnue to use the Governments Letters and Sounds videos. They cover all the bases of what the children should be doing in the Summer term with their phonics work. You may have been contiuing to use these over the last couple of weeks, if so then please continue. If not then we will carry on from lesson 36 this week.

Science/PSHCE - What makes us happy?
1. Discuss with an adult what makes you happy? Write a list of all the things you think you need to make you happy.
2. Choose 4 different animals, try and pick different types of animals, e.g. farm animal, dog, bird, hamster, tiger etc.
draw a picture of each animal and around the outside write what each animal needs for survival.
Are they the same or are they different?
3. Now imagine that you are stranded on a desert island. What would you need to survive? Draw all the items in a suitcase. When you have finished compare these items with your list from the first activity. Are any of these items the same or have they changed? why do you think this is?
Explain that you are going to play them a piece of music performed by 7 different musicians, and at the end you are going to ask them how many/what instruments were used to make the song.
Have a listen to the song Anything, by Naturally 7. What how many/what instruments were used? The answer is one instrument, the voice. (Click the play button on the website and use the arrows until you find the Anything song).
Naturally 7 are a group of vocalists who experiment making sounds using their voices to create amazing music. With your child, list different musical instruments the children know: guitar; trumpet; drums; violin; piano etc. Discuss how you can use your voice to mimic the sound of that instrument.
Choose a well known, simple song such as Happy Birthday or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and assign each group an instrument from the list created earlier. Challenge the children to try ‘playing’ the song in the style of their instrument, using only their voice. Perform to each other!
Art - Paul Klee
This week we are learning about the artist Paul Klee. Many of his pictures are made with continous lines, with each closed space filled with bright colours.
This weeks activity:
Take your pen for a walk. Give your child a blank piece of paper. They have 20 seconds to take their pen for a walk on the paper by drawing 'scribble' all over the page. The only rule is that you must not lift your pencil off the paper. Once they have finished show them Paul Klee's artwork.
The children now have to 'find' creatures and objects hidden within their scribble and colour it in. They can name their creatures, decide on how they got into their house and introduce it to other people.
Exploring our Oceans
Guess Who?- Ask your child to write fact cards about animals from under the sea. They can use books or websites to find out about the appearance, habitat and diet of each creature. After this, play a game of ‘Guess Who?’ using the cards and yes/no questions
Put Your Goggles On- Your child can visit this website and watch a live stream of a tropical reef. Whilst watching, ask them to sketch all of the animals that they can see. Remind them to look at the shapes and patterns on each creature and to include these in their sketches.
