MATHS: This week we are revisiting some concepts from our recent theme of fractions.

SUMDOG: Login as usual and find the new challenge which I have set you. Work as carefully as possible and see if you can get as many correct as possible. I will be watching. Good luck!

There are only 4 of you who still haven't started the SUMDOG fraction challenge set for this week. You have only today to complete this - so come on guys!

There are also lots of fraction speed games on http://www.snappymaths.com/counting/fractions/fractions.htm (like we've used in class) for you to challenge yourself on.

I have set you 5 daily maths activities: (Each day's work has a set of questions which you will need to print out to do. There are also answers, so you can mark your own work once you've finished.)

MONDAY: Converting between fractions and decimals (revision)

TUESDAY: Decimals as fractions

WEDNESDAY: Fractions as operators  (Fractions multiplied by integers)

THURSDAY: Fractions of an amount

FRIDAY: A mixture of fraction questions

For some extra maths challenges each week you could look on https://nrich.maths.org/teacher-primary or https://www.youcubed.org/tasks/

READING: Remember to keep reading at least 5 times a week.

MONDAY: Reading comprehension to complete about Romulus and Remus.

WRITING: Alma a film unit study

Monday: Carry out the 100 word challenge and post on the blog site and carry out Sumdog spelling

Tuesday: Watch the video clip: https://www.literacyshed.com/alma.html or utube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQi-yRy_8h4 You may need to watch it a couple of times to really notice the detail of what is happening.

Now download the document (Almas vipers)  that asks you some questions about what you see at certain parts of the film. Write your answers in your book please.

Wednesday: Look at the video to 1.28 when Alma see the doll. Write the opening 3 paragraphs to the story. The opening reminds me of Clockwork! You could do it in your book or on the blog. Remember: Short sentences; Power of 3; Prepositional starters; Simile and ed ing ly.

Thursday: Look at Tom Palmer's utube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUScPnDwzPU

Now edit your work from yesterday.

Check out Alma again and then write the middle few paragraphs - you could try changing the viewpoint that you're writing from. Try telling the next part from one of the toy's view points who observes what's happening.

Friday: Read your writing from yesterday to some-one to check that it says what you wanted to say. Make any changes that you need. Check out the animation again before you complete the final section. Remember that you are trying to create atmosphere by using words to effect. Make your reader see it in their head and feel what it is like to be there. When it is finished check through by using Tom Palmer's method. Remember to read outloud to someone else. I'd love to see it on the blog!

Remember to do Sumdog spelling - a bit every day.

Do keep up to date with your weekly spelling lists. Practise for 10 mins every day and test yourself on a Friday. (This week's list attached at the bottom of the page)

Complete your own project about the Romans. You can include absolutely anything which interests you about them but you MUST  include information about at least these things:

  • Roman soldiers
  • Daily Life
  • Roman towns and buildings
  • Roman baths
  • Roman sports
  • Clothing
  • Food and drink
  • Roman inventions

Here are a few weblinks which you might find helpful-

You can decide how you present this project: it could be a Powerpoint presentation or a booklet or any other way you like!

Bread investigation update...

SUNDAY: It's not good news I'm afraid folks: yes, I remembered to take the bags of bread home: yes, I was ready with my camera to provide you daily updates of mould growth. But I hadn't taken into account my cat's liking for breaking into plastic bags and eating the contents. So- sorry to report that our investigation is no longer a fair test! However, I will buy some more bread, rub my own children's grubby little hands on it etc and get some photos online for you later this week. (Photo included below)

Bread update 2...

MONDAY: Today its good news. Rowan has helped me set up version 2 of our bread investigation. We've put a control slice in bag 1,  she rubbed her dirty hands all over slice 2, thoroughly washed her hands and rubbed slice 3. I will take daily photos and keep you updated on the results. (New investigation photo attached below)

Bread update 3...

TUESDAY: Can you notice any changes to any of the 3 slices of bread? (Photo from Tuesday attached below)
