MATHS: Daily Lessons
YEAR 5: Monday- Thursday's lessons for year 5 this week focus on angle; you will be measuring, drawing and calculating angles.
YEAR 6:
This week we look at BODMAS (order of operations) and ensure we know which order to carry out the operations within a calculation. We work with whole positive untegers, fractions and negative integers.
Both year groups have the excellent Friday BBC/White Rose challenges for Friday.
SO THAT WE CAN SEE HOW YOU ARE GETTING ON, PLEASE MARK YOUR WORK USING THE ANSWER SHEET AND THEN PHOTOGRAPH IT AND SEND IT TO US USING SEESAW.
The Fluent in 5 sheets and the times table sheets are always available, if you complete the other work quickly. (Find these on the You Might Like... tab) SUMDOG is an extra to do too, for some maths and gaming time!

If you want to practise your arithmetic then use the Fluent in 5 sheets. If need some tinmes table practice, use the times tables worksheets to practise any times tables you are less confident of. ALL THESE RESOURCES CAN BE FOUND ON THE You Might Like... tab.
YEAR 6 MONDAY BODMAS
Use the powerpoint to guide you through the worksheet (same questions in powerpoint as on worksheet).
Then read through the mathsisfun explanation of BODMAS and have a go at the quiz. CLICK HERE FOR MATHS IS FUN EXPLANATION AND QUIZ
Then have a go at the BBC Bitesize quiz here CLICK HERE FOR BBC BITESIZE QUIZ

YEAR 6 TUESDAY BODMAS WITH FRACTIONS
Today we look at how BODMAS is equally relevant in calculations involving fractions
Begin with the True or False questions.
Next, use the Powerpoint to work your way through the worksheet.
YEAR 6 WEDNESDAY BODMAS/BIDMAS including negative numbers (Year 7)
YEAR 6, YOU ARE READY FOR THIS CHALLENGE. Watch the White Rose (year 7) tutorial which takes BODMAS into using negative numbers. Then complete the follow up WR worksheet.
Next, use the resources from BBC Bitesize CLICK HERE TO FIND THE LESSON and then try the Y7 BIDMAS worksheet from BEYOND MATHS. There is also a colouring sheet on the same theme.
YEAR 6 THURSDAY
Today your questions are a combination of some BODMAS arithmetic and then a paper with a mixture of all 4 operations; these will test your addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills, whilst including some algebraic thinking in the form of empty box questions and a few BODMAS questions are also in the mix. Work carefully- aim for real accuracy.

(If there is anyone who hasn't started listening, listen along from chapter 1 and catch up with us) On our edublog https://stonewithwoodford.edublogs.org/ there is a new padlet where everybody needs to complete a written response after listening each day. In the table below and also above the padlet it explains what you need to write. Mrs McCalmont and I will post comments and you can also add comments to each other's posts some days.

WRITING
DAILY TASKS
MONDAY: Dreamgiver
Write, based on the first part of this film (not beyond 2min 10sec). Show not tell what is happening. No spoilers, make sure your reader makes the assumption many viewers make as they watched this opening. (Scroll down for more details)
TUESDAY: The Wish Granter
Your job is to write the advert/trailer which will persuade viewers to come to watch it. (Scroll down for more details)
WEDNESDAY: Dreams and Wishes. Choose a writing task of your own, or select one from the ideas listed. (scroll down for details)
THURSDAY: This is the first of 2 lessons this week based on the writing of the most well known and respected English playwright- William Shakespeare. Thursday's lesson looks at his play, The Twelfth Night. (scroll down for details and link to lesson)

EXTRA: The daily writing prompts from Pobble365 are also attached below. There is also the 100 word challenge.
MONDAY: Dreamgiver
QUESTIONS DURING WATCHING: When the creature is first seen, what are your first impressions? What do you expect to happen? When do you realise what is actually happening? How does he create these dreams? What goes wrong? How is this resolved?
TASK: Write, based on the first part of this film (not beyond 2min 10sec). Show not tell what is happening. No spoilers, make sure your reader makes the assumption many viewers made as they watched this opening.
TUESDAY: The Wish Granter
Imagine that this short film has been chosen to be shown as the cinemas first open after lockdown. It will be shown before the feature film.
Your job is to write the advert/trailer which will persuade viewers to come to watch it. Try to include the way the wish granter is woken from his apathy of granting mundane wishes to determindly fulfill the wish of love between the strangers.
WEDNESDAY Dreams and Wishes
You have watched 2 animations about dreams and wishes so far this week. Re-watch each animation then try today's task. Today you can choose a new piece of writing to do based on the concept of dreams and wishes. You may have an idea of your own, OR you might like to choose one of those listed on the right.
- Make up your own Dreamgiver, what does he look like? How does he give the dreams to people?
- What object/picture would you like the Dreamgiver to crack his egg onto? Describe the dreams that happened afterwards.
- Explain what is needed in a Wishgranter's toolbox.
- Discuss what you would wish for at the wish fountain and why.
THURSDAY Shakespeare and The Twelfth Night

Brilliant Bodies CLICK ON THE PICTURE ON THE LEFT and watch this short video on anxiety then answer the questions.
Anxiety is a feeling that can be a jumble of fear and uncertainty. Everyone gets anxious at times. What sorts of things might cause anxiety? What is our brain trying to do when we are feeling anxious? What were the three different types of brain responses that the clip mentioned? Our bodies respond to anxiety in different ways. What physical signs were mentioned in the clip? Can you think of any other signs? When someone is feeling anxious, they need to calm down and feel safe.
