Listen to ''The Beasties" story on Mrs Baker's Youtube channel (follow storytime link on home school activities tab). Then each day post a response on the Chestnut Class Padlet to the following activities:

Monday - What treasures would you hide underneath your bed? List them with a comma to seperate the items.
Tuesday - The author described dangerous creatures living on a shore. Can you describe a dangerous creature? it might help to draw a picture before you describe it on the padlet.
Wednesday- In the story the princess played with wolves, what games do you think the wolves would play?
Thursday - If you could meet a memaid under the sea, what would you ask her?
Friday - What did you think of The Beasties story? what was you favourite part? Who were your favourite characters? Were there any parts you didnt like?
As an extra challenge perhaps you could have a go at reading your own little story.
Use the cards below to play phonics bingo. The coloured pages are the bingo boards and the white ones are the cards to cut up and pick. you can mark them off from the list as you pick them. Repeat this activity throughout the week or use the cards to make up new games such a hide and seek - looking for the hidden sounds.

This weeks English work is from the Talk for Writing website by Pie Corbett. Pie has been working with children for many many years and is resposible for the radio blogging work that happens every morning at 9:30. If you haven't visited the radio blogging site then please do. Many of our children at school are visitors every day and are posting work for us to see and comment on. Their work is sometimes read out to all the listeners and other teachers and pupils can also read and comment on work. Its a fantastic opportunity for children to improve their writing and become part of something greater during this isolating time. Here is a link to Cosmic Kids Yoga, it is a lovely way to help the children engage in excersise in a calm purposeful way. The link takes you to one session but there are many more on youtube or you can visiti the cosmic kids website and sign up for a 2 week free trial to access many more videos.
Science - Amazing Animals
This term the children will be learning about animals (including humans).
This lesson is the first in a series that introduces children to a world of animals. First we will find out what children already know about animals.
Talk to the children about what they already know about animals. you could record their ideas in a mindmap.
Use the attached documents below for discussion. Look at the pictures of the animals- print and cut out if you can. children can begin to discuss ans sort them into groups of their choosing. Ask questions....Why have you put them in these groups? What makes them different? What makes the similar?
Then look at the PPT presentation which introduces the terms: birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and invertebrates. Discuss the groups with the children then take time to sort the pictures into the correct groups.
Discuss one animal in detail explaining that it's features help it to survive E.g. a polar bear has thick fur and a layer of fat to keep it warm. It has sharp teeth and claws for catchinf animals to eat. It has fur on the soles of its feet to keep them from freezing in the ice.
NOTE: children do not necesarrliy need to understand the difference between mammals and reptiles etc at this stage but Year 2 could begin to discuss this.

Here are some games you can play related to our animal theme.
WHO AM I?
Tape an animal or animal item to their backs. They may ask each other “yes and no questions” about what they are. Explain that the first question they may want to ask is “Am I an animal or an object?” At the end, each child takes a turn saying what they think they are. Suggestions: cow, pig, sheep, dog, horseshoe, hay, dog bone, etc…
FIND THE ANIMALS!
- BEFORE your event— hide several farm animal toys or cards
around the event area, yard, etc.
- Paint or decorate a box to look like a barn or cage—or use a BASKET….
- Before you start, explain to the children that old McDonald’s (or the pet shop or Zoo Keeper’s) animals got out.
- The children are to search and collect the toys/cards and RETURN THEM TO THEIR HOME.
- Give each child an appropriated treat or prize for hunting.
A DRAWING GAME: ANIMAL JUMBLE
- Using construction or white paper, ask each child to drawn a different body part of an animal, but to have their animal be a secret. For example, have one child draw the head, another draw the tail, another the legs and so on.
- Have the children pick the animal they want to draw.
- When they are done have then put the animal together with tape or glue.
- Have fun coming up with a name for the animal (monk-dog-lion-potamus
