This week's work.

Hello everyone!

This week we will continue with a blend of Radioblogging, Pobble365 and book talking tasks to build our english skills. We are looking at shapes in Maths and exploring seeds in Science. There are short (10-20 minute) afternoon tasks to complete too to help you become really confident telling facts from opinions! I am also including a list of spellings for the week (below this paragraph) and these are all to do with the learning we are doing this week. I have also set timestables for the week to crack on with too!

We will do a class Zoom call at 11, all together! Please make sure you are up to date on the chapters and do your best to attend as we will be doing a quick book quiz, reading chapter 20 and setting our writing task for Friday after doing some book talk all together. Please try and sit somewhere quiet so we don't interupt one another with any extra noise!

Again, I will be in school Monday - Thursday supporting the keyworkers so I will try my best to respond to emails but it will be difficult. I have spent the weekend catching up with everyones work and I've been so impressed!

If you do have questions, send me an email and I will do my best to reply as quickly as I can to you.

oak@stone-with-woodford.gloucs.sch.uk

Up until now I haven't set a timetable for the work, letting people have some flexibility to complete tasks in the order they choose, but if your child is returning to school in the keyworker class part time please try and follow the timetable to allow an easier teaching day within the keyworker class as at times there will be children from years 1-6. Thank you.

There are 3 levels for this task. Depending how confident you are with reading you may need to select a level that you feel confident with. (Free readers should be working at the 3* level). Complete the questions.

Thursday

Try designing your own parachute for a seed. You can use a piece of pasta to represent your seed, how far can it fly? Draw a diagram to show how your seed would be picked up by the wind from its plant.

You can also have a go at creating your own paper sycamore seed which works like a helicopter. Download the sheet below.

Friday

Using your knowledge.

Take the pictures of the different seeds. Look at their features, what do you notice about them?

Try sorting them into the different groups. Explain your choices to adult using as much scientific vocabulary as possible.

Afternoon Tasks

This weeks afternoon tasks are based on knowing the difference between facts and opinions. I feel it is important for the children to start to get to grips with this concept with everything that they are hearing and exposed to in todays climate. There is a challenge a day to develop this skill.

We will be using the BBC bitesize resouces https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zkvg47h Monday - Thursday

Day of the week Learning  Task to complete
Monday

Understanding facts vs opinions

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zkvg47h

Watch the 2 videos and complete the verbal activity below video 2.

Tuesday

If you need to revise the videos from Monday.

Try activity one.

Write down 3 facts about your family and 3 opinions about your family. Jumble them up. Ask your parents if they can sort them into facts and opinions. Discuss whether you've written them accurately.

Wednesday

Fact vs Opinions

Today is about identifying facts and opinions within information sheets.

Try task 2 today.

You will need to download the sheet and will need coloured pencils or highlighters to identify the different facts and opinions.

Thursday

Fact Vs Opinion

Today is about you understanding the difference between facts and opinions when you are writing.

Today we are going to tackle Task 3, we need to make sure both our paragraphs are very clearly fact or opinion.
Friday

Mindfulness Task

Today I would like you to try and do a mindfulness task and help yourself to sort your ideas for the weekend.

You will need a quiet room, though you could do this with your family sat on the floor or chairs as long as everyone is going to be peaceful and listen.

When everyone is settled you can set the youtube video to play

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvF9AEe-ozc

It's only 5 minutes but it is similar to what we have done at the end of our Circle Times before.
