MONDAY - Ross' writing challenge

Click on the picture and scroll down to watch the video called Ross' Writing Challenge on Authorfy. Ross MacKenzie challenges you to create your own spell. He says that spells are like fingerprints: every spell is unique to the owner. Many of you will have had a quick go at one of these as a padlet task a few weeks ago, but today I would like to expand that task and ask you to create a mini spellbook. You need to write at least 5 spells for your book.

You might like to include a light spell or a healing spell. But the choice is yours. You could make a tiny book with the spells inside or a scroll with them written on. How will you make the written spells magical and present them in a magical way?

TUESDAY - What is the Evernight?

Click on the photo and scroll down to watch the short clip from Authorfy called WHAT IS THE EVERNIGHT? where Ross MacKenzie explains briefly what the Evernight is. Use the information here alongside what you know from having read the book to write an encyclodepia (like Wikki) entry to explain what the evernight is.

Before you write, have a look at an entry in an encylopedia and see how the information is set out. How are paragraphs used? Are subtitles useful? Will any pictures be needed?

WEDNESDAY: Make a book trailer for Evernight

Watch Ross Mackenzie's trailer for his book Evernight.

YOUR TASK is to write and record your own trailer for the book. Prepare what you will say and then either record it on the padlet which I will publish on edublog or if you have access to video editing or creation software or an app (like iMovie) you could create it using that and then email it to me.

THURSDAY- a sequel to Evernight...

YOU MAY FIND IT HELPFUL TO LISTEN TO THE VERY LAST CHAPTER (60) TODAY, BEFORE YOU DO THIS TASK. I HAVE UPLOADED BOTH CHAPTERS 59 AND 60, SO THAT YOU CAN DO THIS.

Now, imagine a sequel book, which followed on from Evernight, was going to be written. What might happen? Will Mrs Hester and the Evernight return? Will the inhabitants of the slums rise up and overthrow the king?

CHOOSE YOUR TASK FROM THESE SUGGESTIONS;

  • Write the opening chapter of the sequel. Where will the action begin? Who will the chapter focus on? Is it a location or character we know from Evernight or is it a new character or location?
  • Write a trailer for the new book. What will the book be called? How will you tempt readers to buy the new book?
  • Write a plan of the complete story of the sequel. You could create a story board or a 'mountain' plan to organise your ideas.

FRIDAY - a listening task

Today's Engish task is a listening , rather than a writing task. Listen to the Book Wanderers Club with Ross Mackenzie, author of EVERNIGHT. Now that you have heard the whole of the book, Evernight listen to its authot talk about his own book , his inspirations, how he writes etc.
