MATHS: Daily Lessons

YEAR 5: Monday- Thursday's lessons for year 5 this week focus on angle; you will be measuring, drawing and calculating angles.

YEAR 6:
This week we look at BODMAS (order of operations) and ensure we know which order to carry out the operations within a calculation. We work with whole positive untegers, fractions and negative integers.

Both year groups have the excellent Friday BBC/White Rose challenges for Friday.

SO THAT WE CAN SEE HOW YOU ARE GETTING ON, PLEASE MARK YOUR WORK USING THE ANSWER SHEET AND THEN PHOTOGRAPH IT AND SEND IT TO US USING SEESAW.

The Fluent in 5 sheets and the times table sheets are always available, if you complete the other work quickly. (Find these on the You Might Like... tab) SUMDOG is an extra to do too, for some maths and gaming time!

Next,  use the resources from BBC Bitesize CLICK HERE TO FIND THE LESSON  and then try the Y7 BIDMAS worksheet from BEYOND MATHS. There is also a colouring sheet on the same theme.

YEAR 6 THURSDAY

Today your questions are a combination of some BODMAS arithmetic and then a paper with a mixture of all 4 operations; these will test your addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills, whilst including some algebraic thinking in the form of empty box questions and a few BODMAS questions are also in the mix. Work carefully- aim for real accuracy.

MONDAY: Dreamgiver

QUESTIONS DURING WATCHING: When the creature is first seen, what are your first impressions? What do you expect to happen? When do you realise what is actually happening? How does he create these dreams? What goes wrong? How is this resolved?

TASK: Write, based on the first part of this film (not beyond  2min 10sec). Show not tell what is happening. No spoilers, make sure your reader makes the assumption many viewers made as they watched this opening.

TUESDAY: The Wish Granter

Imagine that this short film has been chosen to be shown as the cinemas first open after lockdown. It will be shown before the feature film.

Your job is to write the advert/trailer which will persuade viewers to come to watch it. Try to include the way the wish granter is woken from his apathy of granting mundane wishes to determindly fulfill the wish of love between the strangers.

WEDNESDAY Dreams and Wishes

You have watched 2 animations about dreams and wishes so far this week. Re-watch each animation then try today's task. Today you can choose a new piece of writing to do based on the concept of dreams and wishes. You may have an idea of your own, OR you might like to choose one of those listed on the right.

  • Make up your own Dreamgiver, what does he look like?  How does he give the dreams to people?
  • What object/picture would you like the Dreamgiver to crack his egg onto? Describe the dreams that happened afterwards.
  • Explain what is needed in a Wishgranter's toolbox.
  • Discuss what you would wish for at the wish fountain and why.

THURSDAY Shakespeare and The Twelfth Night

For today's English lesson we are going to use these BBC Home Learning resources to learn about William Shakespeare; to find out where he grew up, how he became famous and the different types of plays he wrote.  Click on the picture of the left to take you to the lesson.

This lesson includes:

  • two videos (one about William Shakespeare himself and another which is an animation of his play, The Twelfth Night)

  • three activities (ordering events in Shakespeare's life, writing a playscript and a comprehension about Shakespeare)

FRIDAY Bitesize Daily Book Club: Macbeth Retold by Marcia Williams

Today's lesson focusses on a retelling, by Marcia Williams, of William Shakespeare's play Macbeth. You will be summarising a character and using evidence from the text to write.

Click on the photo on the right to find this lesson.

This lesson includes:

  • two videos of TV presenter Ore Oduba reading extracts from the book
  • three activities (writing a description of the 3 witches, consider what impression you get of Lady Macbeth, write a letter as Macbeth)

TOPIC: SCIENCE (GROWING UP)

This week's science theme is LIFE CYCLES. Watch the introductory Powerpoint presentation to find out about the life cycles of different types of animals and plants.

  • mammals
  • amphibians
  • reptiles
  • insects
  • birds
  • flowering plants
  • non-flowering plants

For each type, research further online about their lifecycles and then either present your findings in your own way or use the Twinkl resources to record the life cycles. Each type has 3 levels of difficultly for you to choose between, so only print the page(s) you need.
